Our Mission – Elevating Peruvian Cuisine in Greater Boston

Tambo 22 opened in March 2020 with a singular vision: to introduce a refined expression of Peruvian-inspired cuisine to the Greater Boston area. Our mission is to deliver an exceptional dining experience that evokes the spirit and flavors of the Andes, seamlessly blending culinary heritage with contemporary elegance.

About Tambo 22 – A Culinary Landmark in Chelsea, MA

Rooted in the traditions of ancient Incan culture, the term tambo referred to a roadside refuge—offering respite, nourishment, and hospitality to travelers navigating the Andean highlands. Inspired by that timeless concept, Tambo 22 was born at the vibrant crossroads of Route 1 and Route 16 in Chelsea, Massachusetts.

Within our warm, rustic-modern setting, we present a thoughtfully curated menu that reflects the richness of Peruvian gastronomy. Under the direction of acclaimed Chef Jose Duarte, our culinary program highlights locally sourced, sustainable, and all-natural ingredients. Each dish is a celebration of bold, nuanced flavors—crafted with precision and plated with intention.

Our beverage offerings are equally considered, featuring handcrafted specialty cocktails, select Peruvian and local craft beers, and a wine program focused on organic and biodynamic selections that complement the complexity of our cuisine.

Chef Jose Duarte—renowned for his leadership at Taranta in Boston’s North End and Trattoria San Pietro in Norwell—alongside his wife and partner Anna, brings over two decades of innovation and expertise to Tambo 22. Together, they continue to set the standard for conscious, experience-driven dining in New England.

Sustainability, Innovation & TamboLAB

At Tambo 22, we believe gastronomy can serve as a powerful vehicle for change. Our commitment to environmental stewardship, community engagement, and culinary education is reflected in every aspect of our work.

In collaboration with the Center for Bits and Atoms at MIT and the Lima FABLAB, we are proud to introduce TamboLAB—an initiative dedicated to exploring the intersection of food, technology, and sustainability. Through this partnership, we aim to redefine what a restaurant can be: a space of innovation, purpose, and global impact.
